Pakistan to Establish Baba Guru Nanak University in Nankana

Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan has laid down the foundation stone of Baba Guru Nanak University in Nankana, Punjab Pakistan. The groundbreaking ceremony has taken place when the 550th birthday of Baba Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikh religion is approaching in November.

What Will be Baba Guru Nanak University All About

According to the public portfolio presented in this year’s foundation stone laying ceremony Ijaz Ahmed Shah, a Pakistani politician who has been closely associated with the project stated that the university would house all facilities a standard university has. He further stated that unlike other universities, Guru Nanak University would also include Sikhism and Punjabi as part of its syllabus for those who choose it.

The university will not only serve the Sikhs community but will also serve students from other communities as well. The university will offer all the latest subjects ranging from Engineering to Arts.

Punjab Chief Minister Usman Bazdar speaking on this occasion reportedly told that government planned to build 8 more universities in different regions of Punjab.

Baba Guru Nanak is the founder of Sikhism and holds the highest regards among his followers who are spread around the globe. He is commonly referred to as Guru Nanak. His birthday celebration is known as Guru Nanak Gurpurab and it will be celebrated on 30 November this year.

Each year Sikhs from all over the world visit Nankana, birthplace of Baba Guru Nanak to celebrate the anniversary of their most revered spirtual leader. After India, the largest group of devotees come from Canada and then other parts of Europe. Pakistani government on this ensures to provide security and safety to Sikh pilgirms on this eve.

The Sikh community from all over the world is overjoyed and are rejoicing after hearing this wonderful news. The Pakistani Sikh community for a long time yearned for the establishment of a university in Nankana sab, but due to political and governmental negligence, the project kept on getting delayed or brushed under other files.

People are praising government’s initiative for showing care for religious minorities. Last year, after coming to power Imran Khan’s government had also laid the foundation stone of Kartarpur corridor to allow Sikh pilgrims visa free access to Gurdwara Darbar Sahab, Kartarpur.
