Nominations for the Oscars 2020 have been announced and they have got much expected names. While some fan favourite actors, directors and singers are lined up for academy award, the nominations have already become a subject to debate.
Like this tweet from United Nations Women’s Twitter handle laments that once again no woman director has been nominated for Oscars.
Oscars 2020 Nominations
Let’s begin with the list of best actors. Joaquin Phoenix of Joker is also among the nominees; the film is leading with nominations in eleven categories. Other names include Antonio Banderas from Pain and Glory, Leonardo Di Caprio from Once Upon A Time in Hollywood, Adam Driver from Marriage Story and Jonathan Pryce from The Two Popes.
Tom Hanks, Brad Pitt, Al Pacino, Joe Pesci and Anthony Hopkins have been nominated for the best best supporting actors.
Best Actress
The nominees in this list are Cynthia Erivo from Harriet, Scarlett Johansson from Marriage Story, Saoirse Ronan from Little Women, Charlize Theron from Bombshell and Rene Zellweger from Judy.
Kathy Bates, Laura Dern, Scarlett Johansson, Florence Pugh and Margot Robbie are nominees for the best supporting actress.
Best Picture
For Oscars 2020, 9 films received the nominations for the Best picture. These include Ford v Ferrari, Jojo Rabbit, Joker, Little Women, Marriage Story, 1917, Once Upon A Time in Hollywood and Parasite.
The nominations for the best foreign language film went to Parasite from South Korea, Honeyland from North Macedonia, Corpus Christi from Poland, Pain and Glory from Spain and Les Miserables from France.
Joker, The Irishman, 1917, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Jojo Rabbit, Little Women, Marriage Story and Parasite are the movies with more than five nominations in different categories.
Animated Films
The year 2019 saw some of the epic animated movies like Toy Story 4, Aladdin and The Lion King coming back to the screen. The animated films which are up for winning Oscars 2020 include Toy Story 4, Missing Link, I Lost My Body, How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World and Klaus.
The ceremony for the 92nd Academy Awards or Oscars 2020 will take place at Dolby Theatre, Los Angeles on February 9, 2020.
