Business and Technology magazine Forbes published the list of Asia’s Digital Stars. Pakistani actors Aiman Khan and Mahira Khan along with the singer Atif Aslam have made it to the list that includes the like of Shahrukh Khan, Akshay Kumar, Katrina Kaif and Madhuri Dixit.
Most of the celebrities in Asia’s 100 digital list are from the South East Asian countries like China, Japan, Indonesia, Singapore, HongKong and Taiwan.
Aiman Khan in 100 Digital Stars
Aiman Khan who is 21 years old actress is the most followed celebrity on Instagram in Pakistan. She, along with her sister Minal Khan also runs Aiman Minal Closet which is a fashion site. While Mahira Khan and Atif Aslam both are internationally recognized artists, for Aiman, this seems the first of its kind achievement. The actress has more than 8 million followers on Instagram.
Aiman who was an emerging actor became more popular after her wedding ceremony with Muneeb Butt went viral on social media. The couple also has one year old daughter who also remains the centre of attraction on social media. Both Aiman Khan and Minal Khan have a huge fan following since the twin sisters started working in showbiz from a very young age.
The Reason for Mahira Khan to Make to the List
35 years old Mahira Khan has also 7 million followers on Instagram. The actress is not only famous in Pakistan but also in India after she was starred in Raees opposite Shahrukh Khan. She also actively uses social media to raise her voice on issues related to mental health. Mahira Khan along with actor Fahad Mustafa is working on the film Quad-e-Azam Zindabad. Her film The Legend of Maula Jatt is also all set to make to the cinema, probably after the pandemic is over.
It is to be noted that the 100 Digital Stars in Asia list is not about young celebrities or some emerging actors; it is more about social media following. Perhaps, this is the reason why unlike 30 under 30 lists the stars include veteran actors like Shahrukh Khan, Akshay Kumar, and Madhuri Dixit.
However, there are several young stars on the list like Aiman Khan, Alia Bhatt, and Rapper Rich Brian from Indonesia, Kun from China, and Krystal Jung from South Korea.
Making it to the top 100s with huge social media following is indeed an achievement. However, these stars don’t owe their rise to fame to social media or digital world only. Therefore, the list doesn’t reflect the impact of digital world on someone’s stardom. Maybe, the publication in future can exclusively focus on celebrities who are not already big names on the big screen.
