Google Bans Android Apps Displaying Ads on Lockscreen

It is not easy being an open source operating software. Android comes under that category where sometimes, developers get away with many unchecked things. Google is obsessed with user experience, be it search, apps, websites or anything else. Therefore, Google does not take it easy when Android apps start interfering with the user experience.

Therefore, Google takes action this time against those applications which want to show adverts on Lockscreen. Thus, all such android applications will get removed from the Play Store. A recent change in Google’s guidelines for the developers came to light a few days ago.

Notification Relating to Lockscreen Monetization

A notification mentions it clearly that developers cannot build applications showing monetization on Lockscreen. Therefore, they can only include announcements relating to info that can be displayed on Lockscreen. It does not, however, include announcements relating to the advertisements on the screen. The new notification will surely make a difference and stop android app developers from showing notifications on Lockscreen.

A Step Towards Better User Experience

The Android development community believes app developers should be careful about these notifications. They should avoid displaying such advertisements or notifications, persuading the users to tap into them. Typical examples of apps violating these policies include Hotspot Shield VPN and ES File Explorer. This new update will discourage the application developers from showing advertisements on Lockscreen.

Why Discourage Lockscreen Advertisements?

The app developers have been using these tactics in the past to drive traffic to their applications. Several of the Android application users would unnoticeably click on these advertisements. Some of these adverts may lead the users to phish sites or other pages containing the virus.

How Will New Change Impact User Experience?

There are aspects of these banned notifications from the Android market or Google Play Store. The first is that they can wrongfully compromise the security of the users. Second, they may obtain personally sensitive and confidential information. Lastly, they severely interfere with the user experience.

Thus, this upgrade will help Android OS become a secure mobile operating system. It will also help users avoid any unsolicited messages and notifications. They would not have to click on those unsuspecting advertisements which can be unsafe for them.

Google is recently taking the security of Pixel and Nexus a lot seriously. The company is apparently communicating about the vulnerabilities relating to certain patch levels. These new changes are part of covering those security loopholes.
