Canadian singer and songwriter Avril Lavigne announced that she got engaged to the American pop-punk artist Mod Sun. Avril revealed the big news in an Instagram post, saying that her new beau proposed to her during a boat ride in Paris on 27th March. She shared many other photos and videos from the special day, that her fans have been extensively sharing on social media. Some have been combining all of them in one edit to treasure this moment forever.

Avril Lavigne Said it was A Surprise
Talking to the media, Avril Lavigne said that the proposal was a surprise for her but she already knew that “he was the one” when she met him.
She loved the proposal and said it was the most romantic one she could have asked for. They were on a boat on the Seine River in Paris. There were roses, champagne, and a violin player. Lavigne described that she felt like “time stood still in that moment, and it was just the two of them there”.
Mod Sun gave her a heart-shaped diamond ring, that fans are in love with. It has “Hi Icon” written on it, which were the first-ever words he said to her. The two even had heart-shaped rings when they met so they decided to go for engagement rings in the same shape as well.
Who is Mod Sun?
Derek Ryan Smith, 35, known professionally as Mod Sun is a singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and rapper from Minnesota, US.
He began his musical career in 2004 as a drummer in a pop-punk band the Semester. He also played with other bands including Four Letter Lie and Scary Kids Scaring Kids. After 2009, went solo and started performing rap, and took the name Mod Sun. However, he shifted back to punk-pop after releasing 4th album. Currently, he is also a part of Hotel Motel, an alternative hip-hop duo.
Before dating Avril Lavigne, Sun was in a polyamorous relationship with YouTuber Tana Marie Mongeau and Hollywood actress Bella Thorne in 2018. After the throuple’s breakup, Sun and Thorne began a monogamous relationship and got married. However, they divorced within 15 months and Sun began monogamous relationship with Mongeau in 2020, which also did not last long.

According to reports, the couple been dating since 2021 after collaborating on Avril’s latest album Love Sux. Mod Sun shared some lovely words for Avril on this occasion.

This is not the first time Avril Lavigne has tied the knot. She had been married before two times. First one was with Sum 41’s lead singer Deryck Whibley, that lasted from 2006 to 2010, and the second one with Nickelback’s Chad Robert Kroeger, from 2013 to 2015.
