Babar Azam Not Winning Man of the Tournament Award Upsets Pakistanis

On Sunday, social media witnessed a flood of angry posts regarding Babar Azam, the captain of the Pakistani cricket team not winning the Man of the Tournament award. The fans expressed their views on how the Pakistani skipper was the most deserving batsman in the T20 world cup 2021 and yet he was not acknowledged for it by ICC. In the finals, Australia took the world cup trophy home after winning against New Zealand. The Australian player, David Warner won the title “player of the tournament” making, Pakistanis question how come a batsman who scored lower than Azam can win the award.

Fans Declare Babar Azam Man of the Tournament for T20 World Cup 2020

The T20 WC board declared Warner, Man of the tournament, and netizens did not like it. Many people on social media praised Azam’s efforts in the world cup 2021. They argued that David wasn’t a deserving player even though he was a part of the team that won the title. Pakistani team’s captain scored the highest and gave a record-breaking performance in T20 2021. According to reports, the total tally of his score was 303 runs, which is the highest among all the cricketers.

Not only Pakistanis but crickets aficionados from other countries also admitted that Azam was the best man standing in the entire tournament. Daniel Alexander, an administrator at island cricket tweeted about the best batsman and bowler of the T20 world cup. He mentioned Azam as the highest scorer and Wanindu Hasaranga, a Sri Lankan cricketer the best bowler and wicket-taker.

Some old Pakistani cricketers also presented their views about Babar Azam. Waseem Akram, a former Pakistani cricketer opined that Azam was always unsatisfied with his performance, which made the player a great sportsman.

Rashid Latif who had been a good Pakistani cricket coach and a former cricketer mentioned that Babar was someone out of this planet. And he is counted among the greatest sports icons like the football players Ronaldo and Messi.

Michael Paul Vaughan, the English cricket commentator appreciated the Pakistani team captain as he bested the England cricketer, Joe Root, and pushed him out of the fabulous 4. Which were previously, Australian Steve Smith, New Zealand’s Kane Williamson, England’s Joe Root, and India’s Virat Kohli. Now, Azam has taken Root’s place. Naser Hussain, a British commentator seconded Vaughan as he agreed that the higher scoring person of T20 is among the 4 best cricketers in the world.

Fans and Experts Supporting Babar Azam

Shoaib Akhtar, a reputed former Pakistani cricket disagreed with the (ICC) international cricket Council’s decision to award David Warner as the Man of the Tournament. He stated that he was expecting Babar Azam to win the title. As per him, it was an unfair decision to award Warner since his run rate was lower and stood at 289.

David undoubtedly played well in the league, especially in the final of the T20 world cup but he did not deserve the player of the match award, according to the netizens. For many Pakistanis, Babar’s average run rate of 60.60 and his 303-score seemed more deserving to be acknowledged by the ICC.

Some fans on social media also opined that Warner was simply given away the title since he was playing well against Pakistan and lost a wicket by mistake. Thus, the title was more likely to be compensation. Otherwise, 289 score at an average of 48.16 makes him the second-highest scoring cricketer.

What Is More to Story?

There is a substantial reason behind Pakistani fans reacting to ICC’s decision to award David Warner as the best player of the T20 World Cup. For them, the Pakistani cricket team had been undefeated throughout the entire league. The sad part for them was seeing no appreciation for the sportsmen who played extremely well. After the India Vs Pakistan T20 world cup match, Pakistanis were hoping to see the team in the finals, which unfortunately didn’t happen. Therefore, the oppressed emotions of heartbroken Pakistani people came on top when the WC board declared Warner and not Babar Azam as the Best man of the tournament.

however, fans still praised David for being a good sportsman as he successfully turned the tables around with his winning shots and sixes in every match.
