Government Extends Nawaz Sharif Parole for Kulsoom Nawaz Funeral

Ex-first lady of Pakistan Begum Kulsoom Nawaz passed away in London after her long battle against cancer. Her husband Ex-Prime Minister of Pakistan Mian Nawaz Sharif and her daughter Maryam Nawaz Sharif who are serving imprisonment have been released on parole. The government has extended Nawaz Sharif and her daughter’s parole period to three days so that they can attend Kulsoom Nawaz Funeral. The duo was earlier given parole for a brief period of 12 hours only.

When is Begum Kulsoom Nawaz Funeral?

Begum Kulsoom Nawaz will be laid to rest in Jati Umrah on Friday afternoon, reportedly. Her husband Nawaz Sharif, daughter Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law Captain Safdar are already in Lahore after being released from Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail on parole.

Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz were arrested on July 13, upon their arrival in Pakistan after they were sentenced to ten years and seven years imprisonment respectively, by Supreme Court of Pakistan due to corruption charges. They had been to London to see the ailing Kulsoom Nawaz who was then receiving treatment from Harley Street Clinic in the city.

According to media reports, Nawaz Sharif had earlier refused to sign the documents of his temporary release from Adiala Jail for receiving no favor from the government; his daughter had also backed the decision. Later, his brother Shehbaz Sharif, the ex-CM of Punjab had insisted on the signing of papers, so that father and daughter can attend Begum Kulsoom Nawaz funeral and see her last glimpse.

Begum Kalsoom Nawaz’s Death

Media reported Begum Kulsoom Nawaz death on Tuesday, September 11; this put an end to a bundle of fake news about her death that roamed on social media during general elections 2018 season.

The demise of Kulsoom Nawaz saddened many people in Pakistan and across the world. Politicians, celebrities, and citizens of the country paid homage to the ex-first lady for her bravery, courage, and steadfastness to fight for the democracy.

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan also expressed his grief on Kulsoom Nawaz’ death via Twitter.

Former President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, Hamid Karzai also expressed his condolences on Kulsoom Nawaz’s death.

Parole Extension for Nawaz Sharif

Many Pakistanis on Twiter opined that Nawaz Sharif and her daughter Maryam Nawaz be released on parole to attend Kulsoom Nawaz funeral. Soon after the release was granted, anti-government factions criticized the decision for allowing parole for such a short period. Later, it was extended to three days till Begum Kulsoom Nawaz funeral.
