Coke Studio 2020 Starts With Female Singers Singing Plight of Women

Coke Studio 2020 has just kickstarted with an amazing song Na Tutteya Ve sung by Meesha Shafi, Sanam Marvi, Fariha Pervez, Zara Madani, Sehar Gul Khan, and Wajiha Naqvi. The song is more like the voice of women who are suffering at the hands of patriarchy in different ways but still continue to live with dignity. The powerful lyrics throw light on the issue of objectification to the burden traditions and customs that women have to bear. It also preaches to respect everyone, irrespective of the gender.

The music platform released two more songs on the first day of the season; these include Jaag Rahi by Fariha Pervez and Ali Noor, Dil Khirki by Mehdi Maloof.

Coke Studio 2020 Continuing Tradition of Socially Sensitive Music

For the last few years, Coke Studio has been introducing its line-up with meaningful songs. Like, there was a rendition of Sohni Dharti, Ay Rah-e-Haq Kay Shaheedo and then it was Hum Deikhein Gay. The Coke Studio season 11 promo showed a glimpse of diverse Pakistan with a more versatile line-up from all over the country. This year there is no such singers’ line-up introduction song but the opening episode has this all-girls act that is so relatable to every woman that wants to be heard.

Interestingly, the song has a rap part sung by Meesha Shafi who also remained in highlights for coming up with her MeToo experience against singer Ali Zafar. The powerful lyrics narrate the story of sacrificies women have to give due to traditions that don’t value their sufferings and plight.

The Coke Studio season 11 had Balkaada by transgender singers Lucky, and Naghma; the song brought the singers from trans-community to the limelight. Na Tutteya Ve in season 13 has similar appeal as it goes well with the feel of a gender which is also facing a certain degree of marginalization.

The Artist Line-up of the Latest Season

Coke Studio 2020 has not so ethnically diverse but the interesting artists’ line-up; this year there are many new faces. This year the singers include Bohemia, Sanam Marvi, Fariha Pervez, Aizaz Sohail, Ali Pervez Mehdi, Meesha Shafi, Ali Noor, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Umair Jaswal, Sehar Gul Khan, Mehdi Maloof, Zara Madni, and Wajiha Naqvi.

The new season has come a bit late this time, although Coke Studio had released 99 names of Allah by Atif Aslam in Ramadan 2020. The recitation had received a welcoming response from listeners due to spiritual factors, Atif’s voice, and the magic that Coke Studio adds.

Coke Studio 2020 doesn’t seem to have any participation from folk singers except Sanam Marvi. However, this seasin they have some new voices and also famous Punjabi rapper Bohemia. Therefore, there is still a lot for fans to look forward to.
