Daler Mehndi Gets Trolled For His Conviction in Human Smuggling Case

Famous Punjabi singer Daler Mehndi gets convicted in human trafficking case and gets two years in jail, say the media reports.

The singer has been accused of illegally sending people abroad in the disguise of troupe members.

Case Against Daler Mehndi

Daler Mehndi along with his brother Shamsher Mehndi had allegedly taken 10 members of troupes to the USA in 1998 and 1999 and dropped them there illegally. Mehndi Brothers also faced accusations of charging people hefty amounts of money for taking them abroad illegally.

Bakhshish Singh, a resident of Balbehra village in Punjab, had filed the case in 2003 in Patiala Court. His stance was that Mehndi brothers took money from him to send them abroad as their troupe member.

In 2006, Patiala court had upheld the case due to the availability of sufficient evidence and scope of further investigations,

Reports also suggest that Patiala Police had raided the Dehli offices of the singer and seized the documents and case files of those who allegedly paid the passage money.

Trolls Over Conviction

Social media users who knew the singer and his work responded in a bit hilarious manner to the news. And, they used his famous songs and lyrics to describe what might have happened.

A Criticism of Indian Judicial System

This singer was convicted almost 15 years of the filing of the case. Social media users are now also criticising the Indian Judicial system.
