Firdous Ashiq Awan Faces Backlash for Insulting a Civil Servant

Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar’s special assistant on information, Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan has gone viral for scolding an assistant commissioner during her visit to Ramadan Bazar. The public kept on sharing the video on social media in which Awan was seen shouting at the bureaucrat over the presence of rotten fruits and vegetables in the market.

Dr. Awan has been receiving serious backlash from the public, who widely condemned her language and tone out in the public. They reckoned it was not Awan’s place to humiliate someone on the streets considering the overall performance of the government.

Firdous Ashiq Awan Putting Up a Show

After watching the video, people instantly found out that PTI was onto another one of their vanity projects. Yesterday on 2nd May, Prime Minister Imran Khan also visited a Ramadan Bazaar, which went equally viral. Though he was merely instructing the shopkeepers to follow COVID-19 protocols, Dr. Awan took it up a notch to make it seem like that the government was working.

Difference in Attitude of two Government Official

People specifically hated the gist of Firdous Ashiq Awan, who was acting like an evil patriarch of a damaged family where quiet and naïve women were regularly oppressed. AC Sonia Sadaf kept her cool throughout the drama and it allowed people to easily distinguish the better government official from the two.

Addressing the Problems

It is true that the bureaucracy of Pakistan is as corrupt as the judiciary, parliament, and everything else, but it does not mean that leaders treat civil servants like their own personal slaves. They must realize that each one of them is carved out of the same stone and if they want things to change then replace the damn stone rather than hitting each other with it.

Opposition Demands Apology for Civil Servant

Although proving useless in their own respective tenures, the opposition stood up for the dignity of civil servants. Maryam Nawaz said that this was exactly how the PTI government always projected the frustration of their failures onto others.

She said it was unacceptable and also mocked Imran Khan by saying that civil servants were not selected by the establishment; they had to go through tough examinations to get government jobs.

She demanded that Firdous Ashiq Awan should rightfully apologize to AC Sonia Sadaf.

Reportedly, Punjab Chief Secretary Jawad Rafique Malik complained to CM Buzdar about this incident and said that no one should be allowed to speak with government officials this way.
