PSL 2 final is in Lahore. PSL Chairman Najam Sethi made the decision after a meeting with the PSL franchise owners. All the five teams have been asked by PSL management to nominate the possible replacements for the foreign players not participating in the PSL 2 final 2017.
PCB Chairman on PSL Final Security Situation
The PCB Chairman, while talking to the media said that he understood the security risks posed to the foreign players. However, the PSL 2 final planned in Lahore will go ahead as per the decided schedule. He showed full trust in the capabilities of the law enforcement agencies in ensuring successful conducting of the event.
He also mentioned about the ongoing preparations at Qadafi Stadium Lahore and also said that he would soon announce the schedule for the sale of tickets. In response to a question, the Chairman said that PCB would decide participation of the foreign players in Lahore by 4th March 2017.
According to the decision by PSL 2 event organizers, if any of the foreign player’s team fails to qualify, that player will be available for the two PSL final teams from a central pool.
The PSL Final’s Decision
It took a lot of effort on the part of the PCB and PSL to convince the franchise owners to hold the final in Lahore. Earlier everything was going perfectly fine until a bomb blast in Lahore changed everything.
This terrorism incident not only changed the venue but many also questioned if PSL final could be held even in Pakistan. PSL Chairman asked Pakistani cricket fans about the PSL final. The reply, in general, was to conduct it in Lahore.
Many of the foreign players seemed to be reluctant about coming to Pakistan for playing the final. And some of the players have not yet decided if they want to come to Pakistan for PSL final or not.
Why does PSL Final need to be in Lahore?
We as a cricket hungry nation want to see international cricket. Our cricketing heroes have not performed in front of the home crowd for years. ICC holds all Pakistani Test, ODI, and T20 matches outside Pakistan. If we can revive cricket in Pakistan, it has to start from somewhere. By holding PSL final in Lahore, we will be able to give a message to the world community that we can safely organize international sporting events in Pakistan.
