Gangnam Style video remained as the most watched video online for a lot of time. However, the Gangnam Style video does not remain to be the most watched YouTube video in the world anymore. The Gangnam Style video ruled the YouTube for five years.

The video became viral, and an instant hit. People over the world went crazy for the video. The interesting fact was that no one understood the language (Korean) but still became a fan. It was the first ever video to have reached one billion views. YouTube had to increase its storage capacity to incorporate that level of traffic on its website.

Videos Surpassing Gangnam Style Video

The song “See You Again” by Wiz Khalifa became the most viewed video online. The 2015 song, a tribute to the legendary artist Paul Walker, has got more than 2.9 billion views. Paul Walker lost his life in an unfortunate car accident in 2013. He was accompanying his friend Roger Rodas in a 2005 Porsche Carrera GT. Both Paul Walker and his friend lost their lives in the tragic accident.

Gangnam Style Video Views Surpassed by Other VideosThe Psy singer behind the song had said in an interview that his song became an unexpected success. He stated that the song was not something standard or what he would have expected from it. The combined views of both videos “See You Again” and “Gangnam Style” can reach up to 21,000 years.

There is another song “Despacito” crossing over 2.5 billion views. The song only got uploaded six months ago. The song remains as one of the most viewed YouTube videos online. It is a Puerto Rican song in both Spanish and English languages. The song has remained at number one spot in the UK for the last eight weeks. The remix of this song by Justin Bieber added pizzazz to it.

Top YouTube Videos Belong to Music Industry

The most viewed YouTube videos belong to the music industry. Around 47 of the top 50 videos are of the music industry. The fact that a lot of viewers’ view music videos online clearly shows how the industry is using this channel to its advantage. However, there is an ongoing battle between the music industry and video streaming websites on royalty. Some media research firms suggest that singers only get $0.01 for each video streamed on YouTube. This amount is considered too small by the music industry, fighting to get more royalties.
