Marvel Studios has finally found its Miss Marvel Kamala Khan inside a Canadian newcomer Iman Vellani. The 18-year-old has no prior acting experience but she is reportedly a Marvel fan. The title of the series will be Ms. Marvel and will release on Disney+ in 2021.

Iman is going to play the first-ever Muslim comic book hero on the big screen. Kamala Khan is a Pakistani-American superhero sworn to protect the fictional Jersey City. She was a normal teenage girl trying to fit in with the society before getting exposed to a strange mist. It gave her extraordinary powers like extending or embiggening her limbs to fight crime. She can also shape-shift or alter her appearance according to circumstances.
The young actress is new to the industry but managed to reap a lot of attention from Marvel fans. She was also seen at the Toronto International Film Festival 2019 with the Next Wave panel. It helps to select films that are suitable for younger audiences. Reportedly, she advocated that the film industry needs more stories from diverse backgrounds and genders. She picked Hala by Minhal Baig, which is a story of a Muslim-American teen trying to navigate through the cultural enigmas.

The studio chose Pakistani director, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy to lead the upcoming Disney+ series. Chinoy is a highly acclaimed filmmaker and journalist who created Pakistan’s first-ever animated film, Sitara: Let Girls Dream. She won Academy Award (popularly known as Oscars) two times and Emmy Award 3 times. Her documentary Armed With Faith won an Emmy for Outstanding Politics and Government Documentary.
The Oscar winner will work alongside Adil El Arbi, Bilall Fallah, and Meera Menon to bring the most awaited superhero to screen.
