Early unofficial poles suggest that Netanyahu may become Israel’s longest serving Prime Minister. The Former PM faced stiff competition from ex-military chief Benny Gantz’s who entered politics after Netanyahu’s alleged involvement in a corruption scandal came forth.
Benjamin Netanyahu as Longest Serving PM of Israel
As the nightfall approached, in 97% of the votes counted Netanyahu’s Likud party and its traditional allies appeared to be in the lead. Netanyahu took to the stage in an after party to celebrate in advance and thanked the people for supporting him.
If Netanyahu wins the election he will become the longest serving PM of Israel beating the father of the nation. According to the Israeli media Netanyahu’s Likud is predicted to have won 35 seats in the 120-seat Knesset. He will be able to form the government with other small parties of the right wing. In his pre-result celebration, the Likud member swore to strengthen the countries security and stressed on developing good international relation with countries like the US.
Troubles Facing the Prime Minister
The 69-year-old prime minister assured that he intended to become the PM. but this is not true according to Israel’s Arab party leader. While talking to the media Israel’s Arab party leader said that the Likud party sent activist with hidden cameras to monitor and intimidate the voters.
The cameras were later confiscated when and a complaint was reportedly filled to the police by Israel’s Central Elections Committee. Other problems that are threatening Netanyahu are the corruption and fraud allegations placed on him by an Israeli attorney general; something that could potentially shorten his tenure and bring about re-elections
Reaction of International Community
World leaders have already started congratulating Netanyahu on winning the election and are looking forward to working with him.
