The world’s richest man Elon Musk has finally bought Twitter for $44 billion. The founder, of Tesla, SpaceX, Boring Company and Neuralink now also owns one of the most influential social platforms. Musk’s latest move to rule over this digital town square has raised many heads. Apart from diverse commentaries on this game-changing deal, Jeff Bezos, his biggest competitor of Musk in the race of wealthy billionaires also came up with an opinion in the form of a troll. The Amazon founder questioned whether China’s invested interest in Tesla can make it gain leverage over the platform.
Concerns Over Elon Musk Buying Twitter
How Twitter will change for users, appears to be one of the major concerns yet. Earlier in April, when the news of Elon Musk buying 9.1% of Twitter shares and thus becoming the biggest shareholder came to the limelight, folks already started speculating a different future for this microblogging website. Musk suggested some actions to improve the platform and in response, the board members offered him a seat. Reportedly, the offer didn’t persuade him as the richest man on Earth was not planning to be a passive player in the company’s matters. On April 14th, the tesla owner announced that he was going to become the owner of Twitter.
Most of the critics have pointed out that Elon Musk now may use this platform to exercise his influence in a better way. However, Jeff Bezos questioned whether Twitter will now be in Chinese hands as he tweeted about the Tesla and china relationship. He trolled Musk for buying Twitter probably to make more money through the Chinese customer base by giving China leverage over Twitter.
Why Elon Has Bought the Entire Platform?
A general opinion is that Elon Musk is interested in using the influence of Twitter for his own benefit. He himself expressed that his vision was to protect free speech. Elon Musk buys Twitter and the social media world falls in line since the hub seems to be the centre of focus. Thus the Free speech vision is to be fulfilled using Twitter only. However, Musk still had stakeholders to convince regarding the financial benefits that he can provide by owning the platform.
Possible Changes in Twitter
Elon Musk buys Twitter and is keen on making some changes to it. Firstly, the platform must be gone private, according to the new owner. This way, the necessary changes will take place without unwanted interruptions. One major change could be an edit button feature on Twitter to change the text after tweeting. This was demanded by many users and Musk has tweeted about it as well. Other than that, the rest of the imminent features include less moderation, an open-source algorithm, and an extended ratio of deleting offending tweets. This means that there will be a higher bar to remove inappropriate tweets.
