Maryam Nawaz blames Imran Khan for her Remarks on Jemima Goldsmith

Pakistani politician and leader from the country’s opposition party, Maryam Nawaz has responded furiously to the ex-wife of Prime Minister Imran Khan, Jemima Goldsmith, who criticized Maryam’s statement about her kids being ‘raised in the lap of Jews’. The anti-Semitic remarks were a disappointing move by the leader of the opposition. In her response, Maryam blamed Prime Minister Imran Khan for initiating this game of dragging opponent’s families into politics. She claimed that she would not have said such stuff if Khan did not accuse her son of playing polo with the help of the country’s money.

Understandably, corruption accusations and anti-Semitism are two opposites. However, as per the traditions in world politics using some populist rhetoric to defame the opponents has become a norm. The public wondered if these politicians can continue their dirty work without dragging each other’s families and religions.

Maryam Nawaz Defends Her Anti-Semitic Statement

When Jemima tried to confront Maryam Nawaz on her anti-Semitic remarks, Maryam said she only has Imran Khan to blame because he started it. She said that if Khan carries on dragging his family for corruption, then he is solely responsible for the consequences. Maryam assured Jemima that she can be much nastier than Khan when it comes to politics.

It was Khan who started dragging the family into political arguments. It doesn’t matter how much hate politicians share, pointing fingers at each other children, is neither logical nor political. This is why Maryam added that she did not want to bring children into this but because of Khan’s remarks, she felt like giving a befitting reply to Jemima.

However, the statement about Khan’s kids being raised in the lap of jews was not simply about dragging the Prime Minister’s family into the game, but it was more about being insensitive towards a particular religion.

Imran Khan Pushing Corruption Allegations Again

Normally in the Pakistani political scene, Khan usually addresses the public with corruption stories of PML-N leaders (which the majority of Pakistanis already know). Then there is a frustrated remark from the opposition and the chain goes on. However, this time the chain caught fire. Last month, former PM Nawaz Sharif’s grandson and Maryam Nawaz’s son, Junaid Safdar was playing at an annual Oxford vs Cambridge varsity match.

Khan found an opportunity to take a jibe at Nawaz Sharif by saying that the weak were being jailed in Pakistan and the powerful were watching their son play polo abroad after getting National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO). Further, he said it was not easy to buy horses and play polo as it required money, the people’s money.

Jemima Goldsmith Remembers Horrible Past

Unfortunately, Maryam’s answer hurt Jemima as she has faced countless anti-Semitic attacks during her time in the past as well, the reason of which can be traced back to Israel’s involvement in human rights abuse in Palestine. It brought back all those painful memories for her which she took to Twitter. Maryam could not stand it and replied to display her animosity towards Khan, who frequently conducts public humiliation of the Nawaz family.

Nonetheless, the behavior of Imran Khan and Maryam Nawaz was embarrassing considering the maturity of their age. Intellectuals do not expect them to behave like school kids fighting in a backyard.
