Everlasting Music of Short-Lived Nazia Hassan

Pakistan is remembering queen of Pakistani pop music, Nazia Hassan on her 18th death anniversary.

The “Sweetheart of Pakistan” was born in Karachi and raised in London. As a singer, Nazia entered the field of music at a young age of 10 and emerged as one of the most well-known singers in both Pakistan and India.

Nazia’s Hassan Famous Hits:

It has been 18 years since Pakistan’s pop music idol, Nazia Hassan, passed away, but her everlasting songs are still heard by her fans with the same joy as they were at her time. Her most famous hits include Disco Deewane, Aap Jaisa Koi, Lekin Mera Dil, Dil ko churnay waly, Boom Boom and many more that have made people shake their legs.

Nazia’s Hassan  Career :

After appearing in various PTV programs as a child artist, Nazia Hassan decided to start her career professionally, at the age of 15. She signed her first song “Aap Jaisa Koi” for an Indian movie Qurbani.

The song was a huge hit making people addicted to it. The song also resulted in making Nazia Hassan an overnight star. Besides being a playback singer, in 1981, she released her album thus becoming the first playback singer to release an album for her own. The album broke sales records in Pakistan and India alongside topping the charts in West Indies, Latin America, and Russia.

Her second album was Star/Boom Boom, in 1982,  one song was used in Bollywood movie Star, the movie was a flop but Nazia’s song along with her album earned success. Boom Boom also resulted in introducing Zohaib Hassan, Nazia’s brother, who participated with her in her second album.

Her third album was Young Tarang, released in 1987, was the first album in Pakistan to be released featuring videos. The popular song from the album was Ankhien Milane Wale after which she returned to playback singing in Bollywood movies.

Her fourth album was Hotline.

Retirement and Death

In 1980 Nazia Hassan was the most famous pop singer of Pakistan. In 1988, she appeared in a PTV program Sung Sung with her brother. She also hosted first-ever all pop-music stage show Music ’89. After releasing her fifth album in 1992, she quit singing to focus on her private life.

Her career spanned over 25 making her one of the most popular celebrities of all time. She received various national and international awards. Nazia’s music is still heard with the same excitement as was in the 90s.

She was diagnosed with lung cancer and died at the age of 35 carving her name on the hearts of her fans. She left her etched legacy into the minds of all those who adored her.
