Political Issues that Stole Limelight at Emmy Awards 2018

Popular TV series Game of Thrones won the award of best TV series on Emmys 2018. But, these were the political issues that stole the limelight. Just like, other awards show that took place at the start of this year, Emmy Awards 2018 also exhibited celebrities openly expressing their opinions and voicing their concerns on various socio-political issues. Not surprisingly, the recent Brett Kavanaugh sexual harassment case remained dominant amidst all the protests.

Celebrities Raising Voice at Emmy Awards 2018

Earlier, it was the Golden Globes Awards 2018 ceremony that turned into me too celebration due to Oprah Winfrey’s powerful speech and celebrities wearing black to protest against the rampant cases of sexual harassment. Now, the Emmy Awards 2018 ceremony took place at a time when the Brett Kavanaugh who is the Trump’s nominee for the Associate Justice for the Supreme Court of United States is making news for allegedly harassing a professor Christine Blasey Ford.

Sarah Sophie Flicker, the wife of the Netflix series Glow director Jesse Peretz made a bold statement regarding Kavanaugh. In the coming week, the US Senate is likely to confirm Kavanaugh without any investigation on allegations made by him. Sara Sophie who wore a red dress at Emmys wrote stop Kavanaugh on her arm. She also shared the story on her Instagram.

Jennifer Lewis Wearing Nike Shirt

Jennifer Lewis stood distinguished on Emmy Awards 2018 red carpet by wearing a red and black Nike shirt. She showed up with such attire to demonstrate her support for American footballer Colin Kaepernick and protest against the racism and police brutality towards cops.

Adam Scott Wearing Pink Buttons

Adam Scott also raised the issue of sexual harassment. He wore the Times Up buttons in pink that said “I believe Cristine Blasey Ford” and “I still believe Anita Hill”. Time’s Up also shared the picture of those pink buttons.

Evan Rachel Wood and Padma Lakshmi also wore the blue ribbon for the cause of uniting immigrant children with their families. Recently everyone including Tech CEOs raised their voice for the kids separated at the border by Trump administration.

Who Won Big at Emmys 2018

The winners at Emmys 2018 were not much surprising. HBO’s Game of Thrones won the best series award. Claire Foy won the best actress in a series award for The Crown and Matthew Rhys won the lead actor award for The Americans.

Peter Dinklage won the outstanding male supporting actor for a drama series and Thandie Newton won outstanding best-supporting-actress award for WestWorld.
