PSL Spot Fixing Case – Notices Issued to Shahzaib and Irfan

Notices are issued by PCB to cricketers Shahzaib Hasan and Mohammad Irfan on Friday about the ongoing PSL spot fixing case investigation.

The Allegation of PSL Spot Fixing Case

The two players face the allegation of involvement in spot fixing during PSL second edition. Both the players are given a chance to present themselves before the anti-corruption unit to explain their situation.

The players Mohammad Irfan and Shahzaib Hasan need to deposit their cell phones to the unit. The anti-corruption unit of PCB will decide further course of action, whether to issue a charge-sheet or drop the case.

In Case of Denial

If the players deny their involvement in PSL spot fixing case altogether, the anti-corruption unit will forward their case to the tribunal. The Court is already investigating the corruption charges leveled against Sharjeel Khan and Khalid Lateef and two other unnamed players involved in spot-fixing.

Cause of Concern

Many sources in the media are reporting the fact that Irfan and Shahzaib did meet some suspicious persons in UAE but did not take their offer.

The problem is that they failed to report the incident to the PCB. A serious offense was committed, doubting their true intentions behind their refusal.

The Briefing of the Anti-Corruption Unit to Cricket Players

This PSL spot fixing is something out of the blue for PCB and PSL. PCB’s anti-corruption unit had given a lecture to the players’ to avoid contact with the “Satta Mafia” as they would try to lure them into their trap. However, some of the players did not listen to the warning and instead went out to meet them, an apparent violation.

Bringing Bad Name to Pakistan and PSL 2

Nasir JamshedHoursTV covered the incident right from the Pakistan Super League 2 start.

First, Nasir Jamshed was involved in a fixing scandal. The former Pakistani opener got arrested in the UK. The National Crime Agency which made the arrest said it was related to an ongoing investigation related to PSL corruption charges. The agency stated that it was working closely with PCB and ICC’s anti-corruption units to uncover the truth.

Similarly, as soon as the PSL 2 started, PCB’s anti-corruption unit started investigations against M Irfan and other players. At that time, alongside Irfan, Sharjeel Khan and Khalid Lateef were also named in the investigation. The allegation at the time was related to some PSL spot fixing.

PSL Spot Fixing Case – A Test Study for PCB and PSL

Pakistan Cricket Board and Pakistan Super League managements have taken the right decision to bring up the issue. The menace of corruption in Pakistan has already damaged our country’s name.
