Toymaker Mattel commemorated the Platinum Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II with a Tribute Collection Barbie Doll. It was the 96th birthday of Elizabeth on Thursday, 21st March 2022. The longest-ruling monarch in British history has been on the throne since her father, King George VI, died in 1952. Queen Elizabeth doll is among the massive selection of souvenirs ready for the big celebration in the UK from 2nd June to 5th June 2022. There will be a 4-day bank holiday to celebrate 70 years of the Queen’s reign.
How Does Queen Elizabeth Doll Look?
Queen Elizabeth doll generated a lot of debate on social media. Some discussed if the toy looked anything like its namesake, while others gossiped about the similarities in royal dressing. A doll made in the image of the British Queen may have been missing a few key details but perfectly replicates the monarch’s style. Apparently, it’s wearing a similar white gown as the Queen is seen wearing in several royal portraits. It is also wearing a Queen Mary’s Fringe Tiara on her head and two Royal Family Orders on a blue ribbon. It was the same tiara that Queen wore on her wedding day.
Terrible Messaging for Young Girls
Social media users pointed out the flaws in the Queen Elizabeth doll that were hidden or ignored due to glamorisation. Many criticised the way toymakers simply skipped the real part and went with superficial design. The doll that was supposed to imitate a nearly 100-year-old person looked like a newborn baby. Critics argued that it sent a highly inappropriate message to young girls, who were the primary target market of this doll.
Many remained unimpressed by the “royalty” that toymakers tried to infuse into a children’s product. Barbie brand already faces criticism based on the type of body image it promotes. Now it has been slammed for misleading young girls into thinking that it can also be royal, which is impossible.

The Queen Elizabeth doll is reportedly priced at 75 USD. It is a limited-edition product and will be sold at Harrods, Selfridges, John Lewis, Hamley’s and on Amazon.
