Netizens Don’t Like Ranbir Kapoor Joking about Pregnant Alia Bhatt

Bollywood heartthrobe Ranbir Kapoor has come under fire for commenting on his wife, Alia Bhatt’s pregnancy. The couple appeared in a live video on Instagram to promote thier upcoming superhero film, Brahmastra. Alia was responding to the question regarding the film’s marketing plan, saying it was not “phailaod” (widespread) everywhere. Ranbir jumped in at that moment and used same word to describe the increase in Alia’s weight due to pregnancy. He pointed to her belly and said “somebody else was phailoed”, meaning that it was spreading.

Social media users have not taken kindly to such comments. They believed that Sanju actor was being a “40-year-old manchild with no common sense” who thought that joking about his wife’s pregnancy was cute.

Ranbir Kapoor, its Not a Good Joke

Viewers shared the clip of Kapoor’s controversial statement and schooled him on fat shaming his own pregnant wife. They said that such comments were insensitive to the pregnant women, who struggle with significant bodily changes. Even if Ranbir Kapoor meant it as a joke, many said it was a bad one.

Widespread Criticism

Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter were not the only social platforms with backlash against Ranbir Kapoor. Most of the internet debated regarding the comments and Alia’s soft response. Many women said that they would not tolerate thier husbands or boyfriends making jokes on thier pregnancy. Some called Ranbir a “walking red flag” and felt bad for Alia who had to put up with him. Some were also concerned if Ranbir was like with her wife in public, how many more low blows he would make in private. Meanwhile, critics came forward with an opinion on why his films and marketing plans were not working. They questioned his focus and wondered what kind of legacy he was trying to establish for himself in Bollywood.

Upcoming Film Brahmastra

Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt got married in April 2022 after 5 years on relationship. 2 months later, the couple announced thier pregnancy in a lovely picture shared on Instagram.

Ranbir was last seen in Sanjay Dutt’s biopic, Sanju in 2018. Alia Bhatt led 2 super hit movies in 2022, Gangubai Kathiawadi and Darlings. Now, both will appear together in a fantasy drama Brahmastra Part One – Shiva, scheduled to release on 9th September 2022. Directed by Ayan Mukerji, the film is about a young man discovering his connection to the element of fire and helping to fight evil forces that threaten the universe.

Apart from Kapoor and Bhatt, the cast includes Amitabh Bachchan, Mouni Roy, and Nagarjuna Akkineni. According to reports, there is a trilogy planned for this project.
