The Truth Behind Saudi Crown Prince Buying Manchester United

Rumors were on rife that Saudi Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Salman was willing to buy famous football club Manchester United for whooping £3.8b, but the US based Glazer family that owns Manchester United denied the offer. New reports suggest that news of MBS looking to buy MU is not true beyond the rumor.

Why Is Saudi Crown Prince Interested in Buying Manchester United

Well, Saudi Crown Prince was  interested in buying Manchester United because allegedly he wanted to challenge Sheikh Mansour of Abu Dhabi’s royal family who owns Manchester City.

According to media reports, media person of MBS, Turki al Shabanah has told that reports of Muhmmad Bin Salman buying Manchester United are false. He further stated that MU held a meeting with PIF (Public Investment Fund Saudi for a sponsorship opportunity. But it has not reached any deal yet.

Man U will remain under the ownership of The Glazer family, who also owns of the NFL’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Glazer family bought the Man U in 2005  with £790 when it was in depth and has no interest in selling the team.

It is to be noted that Manchester United that sacked its coach Jose Mourinho in December 2018 has not performed well in Premium League; a factor that might have given rise to speculations that owners might be interested in selling it.

HRH Muhammad Bin Salman Expensive Interest

HRH Mohammed bin Salman is known for harboring expensive tastes. He owns some of the world’s most expensive things. Take the $300 million French chateau which is the world’s most expensive home. The chateau is known is a 54,000 square foot palace near Versailles that he bought in 2015.

Amongst other extravagant purchases the prince has made include a $450 million Leonardo da Vinci painting and a $500 million yacht from a Russian owner.  So, in view of such expensive purchases, it is inevitable for people to not believe that Saudi Crown Prince may show interest nin buying Manchester United.

Muhammad Bin Salman’s Claim to Fame

   Saudi Crown Prince who also faced criticism for his alleged involvement in murder of Saudi Journalist Jamal Khashoggi is looking to diversify its economy by expanding the pace of cultural activities in an otherwise conservative Arab country. MBS who became crown prince in 2017 is also famous for his crackdown against corruption that reportedly replenished Saudi treasury with billions of dollars.
