Avengers: Infinity War star Scarlett Johansson is now highest earning Hollywood actress. She has replaced the Beauty and the Beast star Emma Watson who occupied the same spot in 2017 with a whooping earning of $29 million.
Johansson has even surpassed Angelina Julie and Jennifer Aniston who are on number 2 and number 3 positions in the list, respectively.
Scarlett Johansson Earnings
According to Forbes, Scarlett Johansson occupied the top slot in the list of highest paid actresses of 2018 with an earning of $40.5 million. The credit for her earning goes to the success of her film Avengers: Infinity war which is one of the six highest-grossing Hollywood films so far. She played the role of Black Widow in Avengers. The actress will also appear in the fourth series of Avengers which is likely to hit cinemas in May 2019.
It is interesting to note that action films which have to rely upon visual effects are investing heavily in the cast. And, if that is the case, then Scarlett might continue to enjoy the title of top-earning female lead for 2019 as well depending upon the success of the fourth installment of Avengers.
Apart from working with Marvel, Johansson also appeared in the films like Ghost In the Shell and Rough Night.
Other Top Earning Female Leads
While Scarlett Johansson is on first, Hollywood superstar Angelina Julie has occupied the second slot in the list. She made $28 million in 2017. The major credit of Angelina’s earning goes to her film Maleficent 2. The Disney’s film for which Angelina contracted is likely to release in 2020.
Friends actress Jennifer Aniston is third in the list with an earning of $19.5 million. Interestingly, a very little credit of Jennifer’s earning goes to her acting as a significant portion of her income comes from the endorsements of the brands like Etihad etc. Still, she has managed to make her name in the list of the top-earning female leads rather than in the list of the highest paid female models.
Rest of the names in the list of top 10 include Reese Witherspoon, Mila Kunis, Julia Roberts, Cate Blanchett, Melissa McCarthy and Gal Gadot.
Who Becomes the Highest Earning Actor
In the film industry, it is not difficult to figure out who will be the highest earning actor. Most of the times, these are the female leads or actresses of the top-earning films at the box office, who manage to make their way to top. Like last year, these were Emma Watson and Emma Stone who earned huge money for Beauty and the Beast and La La Land, respectively. This year, both of these actresses don’t appear in the list. So, it is not necessary for Scarlett Johansson to remain on the top slot for the next year as well.
