SRK in Laal Singh Chaddha is Like Elvis Presley in Forrest Gump

Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha has treated fans with an interesting cameo of Shah Rukh Khan. The Indian remake of the Hollywood classic Forrest Gump (1994) has claimed to remain true to the source. It meant that the makers also needed to recreate the Elvis Presley scene from the original. Aamir Khan said that he needed the biggest star in India to do that so he brought SRK in Laal Singh Chaddha to represent what Elvis meant for the United States. The American singer, known as the King of Rock and Roll, was one of the biggest cultural icons of his time. On the other hand, SRK enjoys similar fame and is often dubbed the King of Bollywood.

Laal Singh Chaddha follows the similar plot of Forrest Gump in an Indian setting. It means that some “American” things have been replaced with Indian ones, such as gol gappas instead of chocolate boxes. Even the political setting of the original is replaced with a more familiar Indian one.

The film was released on 11th August amid boycott threats by Hindu nationalists in India. They despise the Muslim actor for speaking against religious intolerance in the country. Even before the release, the hate campaign on social media tried its best to derail the success of this film. Despite the controversy, The Oscars Academy and Forrest Gump’s page still supported the Indian adaptation.

SRK in Laal Singh Chaddha Surprises Audience

The short cameo of SRK in Laal Singh Chaddha excited fans so much that they started sharing the clip on social media. The scene showed Khan dancing when his eyes locked on the younger version of the main character, Laal. He was fascinated to see the little boy opening his arms in style, a pose SRK used for his movies in real-life. Then SRK came to the boy and asked him to teach him that move. The scene implied that it was the little Sardar who inspired the signature move of the country’s biggest superstar.

Elvis Presley in Forrest Gump

The scene of SRK in Laal Singh Chaddha was a salute to Elvis Presley’s scene in Forrest Gump. 2 artists played the iconic singer for a few seconds. Kurt Russel gave his voice while Peter Dobson portrayed him physically. The character of Forrest Gump was shown as the epitome of naivete, who ventured on a journey that brought him face-to-face with several historical celebrities, politicians, and revolutionaries. One of these figures was Elvis Presley, who came to stay at the Gump family’s Bed & Breakfast. He played the guitar for the young Forrest Gump, who started dancing oddly because of braces on his legs. However, Presley appreciated his dance and adopted it as his own signature move. In real life, Elvis first used the moves in 1956 while playing ‘Hound Dog’ on a TV program. The move earned him the name Elvis-the-pelvis due to the intense shaking of his hips and legs.

Upcoming SRK Movies

SRK in Laal Singh Chaddha is not the only cameo of the actor. Reportedly, he will also appear for a short while in Ranbir Kapoor starrer Brahmastra. King Khan is not playing a lead role in any film this year but has 3 releases lined up for 2023. According to reports, Pathan will release in January, Jawan in June, and Dunki at the time of Christmas.

SRK has been out of the title role business since the failure of his 2018 film Zero.
