This iconic symbol of American freedom became a national monument back in 1924. Initially, only the statue of liberty was a national monument. But from 1935, it also included the entire area of the Bedloe Island. Later in 1965, President Lyndon Johnson also added Ellis Island to it.

- The full name of this icon symbol of liberty is Liberty Enlightening in the World.
- France gave it as a gift to the US back in 1886.
- There are 354 stairs to climb and reach its crown. It is 305 feet tall, one of the tallest statues in the country.
- Both France and US contributed funds coming from public donations. France gave $250,000 while US chipped in $275,000.
- Initially different cities were considered to erect it including Norfolk, Boston, and Sacramento.
- The crown is big with 25 windows in it.
- It is a famous tourist place attracting visitors each year from around the world. Around 4.5 million visitors to come to see it each year.
- There are seven spikes in the crown. Furthermore, these seven spikes exhibit the seven continents of the world and seven oceans.
- The statue is built of iron and copper. However, the outer structure looks of gold color due to oxidation. The thickness of the copper is 2.5 mm.
