Virat Kohli Under Fire Amidst Helicopter Crash that Killed General Rawat

One of the greatest cricketers, Virat Kohli, is facing criticism for sharing a joyous photo on social media during a mournful time in India. According to media reports, a helicopter carrying Indian Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) General Bipin Rawat crashed near Coonoor, Tamil Nadu. According to the latest reports by Indian media, 13 people have died in the accident, including general Rawat and his wife.

The helicopter travelled from Air Force base to the Defense Services Staff College when it crashed in a nearby dense forest. According to reports, an inquiry into the cause of this crash has been going on while the country is praying for the victims.

Several videos went viral on social media showing the damage and fire that locals were trying to put out. In the meantime, an image appeared on Virat Kohli’s Twitter that showed him having some nostalgic fun.

Does Virat Kohli Know about the Helicopter Crash?

The picture captioned “once upon a time,” followed by a car, bike, and smoke emoji, showed Virat Kohli in a playful mood while sitting on a prop bike. It looked like the batter was reminiscing the good old days of childhood when kids used to play like this. The picture also supported hashtags; #80skids #backinthedays.

However, the picture amused only a few of his fans, whereas the majority called him insensitive, ignorant, and oblivious to what’s happening in the country. Many people hoped for the well being of the crash victims as initially, the Indian media was not being very clear about it. So, they questioned how can one of the biggest icons in the country post such an image on a sad day.

No Tweet on Helicopter Crash?

Many aggrieved users disregarded the picture of Viral Kohli as irrelevant. They expressed disappointment that the star gave no attention to the incident but instead was busy in his own life.

Some even suggested Kohli fire his marketing team for not updating him about the crash and how the entire India was worried for the lives of the CDS and his family.

Apart from general public reaction, it was not clear whether Virat Kohli knew about the crash or not. There is hardly a one-hour difference between the early reports about the accident and Kohli’s post as per time stamps.

The cricketer has recently become a target of haters and trolls after India suffered a humiliating defeat against Pakistan in T20 World Cup 2021, which Australia won. Some even went as far as threatening to rape her infant daughter in front of his eyes.

Who is CDS General Rawat?

CDS General Bipin Rawat is the Indian military’s highest-serving official. He joined the Indian army in 1978 as a second lieutenant and served there for over 40 years. Rawat was known for directing forces in Indian-occupied Kashmir (IOK) and along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) that borders China.

According to reports, he has reduced insurgency in Arunachal Pradesh and Assam. He also supervised a cross-border counter-insurgency operation in Myanmar in 2015 against the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN-K). According to Indian media reports, the process killed around 38 fighters belonging to NSCN-K.

The Indian government, led by Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP), selected him as the Chief of the Army Staff in 2015 by reportedly overruling 2 senior officials. Then it appointed him as Chief of Defense Staff (a newly created position), a day before he was about to retire as the army chief in 2019. BJP assigned General Rawat to lead the new Department of Military Affairs (DMA) within the Ministry of Defense.
