Late Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala’s latest SYL song was banned by YouTube in India on June 26 as per a legal complaint by the Indian government. The song is only blocked for Indian viewers. If anyone tries to watch the video on the platform, a message “Video unavailable. This content is not available on this country domain due to a legal complaint from the government” appears on the screen. The singer has had a controversial journey since many had complained about his violent songs portraying the use of guns and ammunition in the videos. The recent action was taken two days after the song was released. SYL of Moose Wala was released a few weeks after his death; the singer had already completed the audio recording.
What Was SYL Song About?
Sidhu Moose Wala’s SYL song was about the Sutlej-Yamuna Link canal or Punjab’s water issues that have been a reason for dispute between Punjab and Haryana for quite a long time. Other than that, the song also visualized the anti-Sikh Riots of 1984, the rise of the Sikh flag Nishan Sahav at the Red Fort during the time of farmer agitation, and undivided Punjab. Sidhu fixated on Balwinder Jattana, the Sikh Liberation Hero for becoming the sole entity to get the SYL Canal Project suspended in its beginning stage. The song hit many people emotionally as they talked about how effective it was in terms of raising the voice of Punjabi farmers. The support was evident through social media and in the comment section below the YouTube video. It became massively popular with more than 27 million views and 3.3 million likes on the video.
Modi Government Bans the Song
The Modi government found the SYL song provocative, violent, and controversial. The song was already trending on multiple social media platforms including Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok, the lip-syncing video application. Reportedly, the video was urging people to talk about historic riots that targeted the Sikh community. Hence the government took legal steps against the viral song and got it banned for the Indian audience only.
The SYL Song is Not Entirely Banned
The viral SYL song is getting even more popular among the fans of Sidhu Mosse Wala after the ban. People are more eager to know about Sidhu Moose Wala and the purposes behind the inspirational and realistic songs. Other than that, those willing to listen to his song can still enjoy it on streaming platforms other than YouTube. The Indian govt has only banned the video version of the song but people can access it on Gaana, JioSaavan, Wink Music, Sound Cloud, and several other sites and apps.
