Sima Kamil writes history within the financial sector of Pakistan as she takes over as the first woman CEO of UBL Bank.
The incoming CEO will replace Wajahat Hussain.
About Sima Kamil
Sima Kamil is a veteran of the banking industry. She is currently leading the UBL Bank Ltd as Deputy CEO. The new CEO will assume her responsibilities as Chief Executive Officer of UBL Bank Ltd on 1st June 2017, after State Bank of Pakistan’s approval.
First Women Bank has had many women filling the roles of CEO and President; Sima Kamil is the first female to take leadership of a major commercial bank in Pakistan.
Kamil possesses over 25 years of professional experience. She was last serving as Head of Branch Banking at HBL, responsible for managing a vast network of over 1600 branches. The portfolio of business she looked after included SME, Rural Banking, Consumer, Retail, and Wealth Management.
She is also leading the development of HBL’s Women’s Market Program.
She is currently serving as Director of HBL Asset Management Co. Ltd.
Kamil is also the Chair of the Board of Governors for Karachi Grammar School and Board of NotreDame Institute of Education.
Sima Kamil also possesses a degree in Business from Kingston University, UK and MBA from City University, London.
Sima Kamil is one of the most inspirational Pakistani women whose belief will motivate other women in different fields to work hard and achieve their goals in life.

Earlier, there were rumors that State Bank of Pakistan had stopped the previous President of UBL Bank Ltd from onboarding a plane to attend an international conference.
The President of UBL Bank Ltd along with 300 employees was stopped from onboarding a flight upon State Bank’s instructions.
The State Bank of Pakistan was not happy with the unnecessary foreign trips taken by the staff of private commercial banks. The SBP also issued a notice asking UBL management to clarify its situation.
Meanwhile, Sima Kamil resigned from her position at the HBL, which came as a big surprise to many.
Mr. Wajahat Hussain took charge of UBL Bank Ltd as CEO back in 2014, taking reigns from Mr. Atif Bokhari. Mr. Wajahat worked as Senior Vice President Group Executive. He was overseeing bank’s International Business portfolio before assuming the position of CEO.
Mr. Wajahat Hussain will remain as Chief Executive Officer of UBL Bank Ltd until May 31st, 2017. Later, he will not serve the bank in any role as he has declined to renew his contract.
