Ben Stokes Wins Hearts for Pledging to Donate Cricket Fee to Pakistan Flood Relief

British cricketer Ben Stokes has announced that he would donate his entire match fees from the upcoming Test series to the Pakistan Flood appeal. England is touring Pakistan after 17 years, but it is the first time with Stokes. The cricketer appreciated the moment and also expressed sorrow over the floods that ravaged the country from July to October 2022. An estimated 33 million people were directly affected by the devastating floods. More than 1,700 died, while property damage ranged from 10 to 40 billion USD.

Ben Stokes Gives Back to the Community

In a Tweet, Stokes said that cricket gave him a lot in his life. By pledging to donate, it is his way of giving back something that goes beyond cricket. He also hoped that his donation would be used to rebuild the country’s most affected areas.

Reaction on Social Media

Many Pakistanis, including the Prime Minister, appreciated the cricketer’s gesture. Shehbaz Sharif tweeted, “empathy for suffering humanity is the greatest of all virtues”. He also added that it was the perfect example of the “British tradition of philanthropy”.

Pakistani cricket fans thanked Stokes for the kindness. Some even said that they would chant his name during the matches with Pakistan. However, the important thing his tweet has probably done is open the eyes of many others.

Pakistan vs England

The Test series between England and Pakistan will start on December 1, 2022. There will be three matches across Rawalpindi, Multan, and Karachi, respectively. Pakistani grounds are unknown territory for the English team, but head coach Brendon McCallum has insisted that players were excited about the new and difficult challenge.
