ECP Declared Assets of Political Parties

ECP declared assets of political parties which include complete details involving spending by each party last year. Important details shared by the Election Commission of Pakistan also include the political parties’ expenditures and bank balances.

ECP Declared Assets – Mandatory by Law

It is a legal obligation upon all the political parties taking part in the politics of the country to share their assets detail with the Election Commission of Pakistan.

There is an Article 13 in the PPC Order 2002 which mandates each political party to share a consolidated statement of their accounts. It asks the political parties to include details about their annual income and expenditure. The political parties also need to make sure a Chartered Accountant audits their account statements, and they have to submit the statement within 60 days of the end of the current fiscal year.

Let us have a look at the ECP declared assets of each party.

Assets Detail PTI

The total assets of PTI reported by the political party amount to PKR 51.6 million, and their bank balance was PKR 110.9 million.

PTI showed the total expenditures it did amounted to around PKR 362.4 million.

The breakup of the PTI’s expenditures included spending on election campaigns PKR 6.6 million, advertisements PKR 2.5 million, entertainment PKR 2.8 million.

Assets Detail PML (N)

PML (N) declared the total assets as a political party amounting to PKR 45 million in 2015. The party reported an income of PKR 16.5 million and had total expenditures exceeding PKR 40 million.

PML (N) declared that it spent around PKR 135,000 on political gatherings and PKR 145,000 on recreation.

Assets Detail PPP

Pakistan People’s Party declared its total assets amounting to PKR 4.9 million. The party had transferred PKR 100 million to PPP-Parliamentarian, a division of the PPP chaired by Former President Mr. Asif Ali Zardari. The political party had a bank balance of PKR 200 million, making it one of the richest political parties, on paper.

Assets Detail MQM

MQM (Muttahida Qaumi Movement) stated that it owned assets of PKR 45.7 million and collected PKR 230 million for its “Martyr Fund.”

MQM spent around PKR 250 million on various expenses to manage its affairs.

Assets Detail PML (Q), PAT, ANP, Jamat-i-Islami and Awami Muslim League

PML (Q) declared its assets at PKR 500 million.

Pakistan Awami Tehreek declared assets of PKR 1.13 million.

ANP stated its assets at PKR 22.8 million.

Jamat-i-Islami declared its total assets at PKR 100 million.

Sheikh Rasheed leading the Awami Muslim League declared assets of PKR 138,000.
