Reports in the media suggest that Panama JIT may get out today. The sources revealed that the SC bench which gave the verdict on Panama Case would decide on the names of the potential team members.
The Institutions Included in the Panama JIT
The following institutions will have a member each in the committee including ISI, MI, SECP, State Bank of Pakistan, NAB, and FIA.
The SC bench will reveal the names of the JIT members who will probe into the Panama Case.
The final say on the selection of the Panama JIT will is of the SC’s larger bench.
As covered in an earlier story published on HoursTV, Supreme Court of Pakistan gave the verdict on Panama Case. As a result, the Supreme Court of Pakistan issued the order to form a Joint Investigation Team to look into the evidence presented for the Panama Case. The court also asked Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his sons Hassan and Hussain to appear before the Panama JIT.
The SC panel consisted of the top five judges of the country including Justice Ijazul Ahsan, Justice Azmat Saeed, Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan, Justice Gulzar Ahmed, and Asif Saeed Khosa. Hence, all these five judges came with their opinions and consequently reached a split Panama Case decision.
The in-depth 540-page verdict in conclusion touched various aspects of the case. The verdict also argued that NAB Chairman did not cooperate in the investigation. Similarly, SC was not happy with the passive role played by FIA to reduce white-collar crimes. All the doubts and suspicions raised by the SC led to the formation of the Panama JIT.
FIA Chief M Amlish has shared three names of the Additional Director Generals to the SC to choose one from it.
Therefore, two names of the Director Punjab and Director Islamabad for convening the JIT include Director Islamabad Mazhar Kakakhel and Dr. Usman Anwer.
Army to Play Its Role in Panama JIT
A few days ago DG ISPR Major General Asif Ghafoor tweeted that Army as an institution will do its part in a transparent within the legal confines.
The Panama Case originates from the millions of documents from Mossack Fonseca. Due to Panama Case, the leaks show PM Nawaz Sharif’s daughter and sons having offshore companies registered abroad. Furthermore, the PM is contesting the case Supreme Court of Pakistan. The Supreme Court of Pakistan is now probing the matter with the help of a Joint Investigation team. The verdict also stated that the case might return to the SC.
