Pizza Pies Under Fire for Causing Britains Obesity Crisis

The favorite food for modern generation is under fire. Public Health England has told restaurants to cut calories from Pizza Pies to tackle Britain’s obesity crisis. So, foodies might miss their favorite Pizza toppings as restaurant owners may slash them in a bit to cut calories.

No More Pizza Pies for Brits

Increasing obesity among UK children is causing authorities to issue guidelines for restaurants. According to media reports Public Health England has asked food outlets to restrict the calories in pizza, pies and other such food items like sandwiches, sauces, and processed meat- This may prevent users from offering any extra toppings.

In the proposals, PHE has recommended containing pies to 695 calories and Pizza to 928 calories in a bid to fight the epidemic of rising obesity, particularly among the kids.

Why Public Health England Took Such Measure

The proposal by Public Health England has given shocking facts about the rising level of obesity. According to some figures, 24000 children in the UK are severely obese, and every, one in five kids is suffering from this disease.

Before issuing these guidelines, PHE officials also discussed the matter with retailers like Mcdonalds, KFC, Just Eat and Deliveroo, reported Daily Mail.

It is interesting to note that fast food like burgers can be customized to offer healthy calories. Recently, research showed that eating Pizza for breakfast could be healthier than eating oats.

The Increase in Habit to Eat Outside

It is a fact that the rising level of obesity is due an increase in the habit of eating outside and an inclination towards unhygienic food. Many reports and relevant researches claim that present generation particularly millennials have started eating out more frequently than those in the 70s and 80s used to do. And, this is one of the reasons why obesity is increasing.

An increase in fast food consumption by working population makes sense, particularly for those who don’t have enough time to prepare food of them. But, the shocking thing is 10 years old, and 11 years old children are more victim of obesity for eating frequently.

Well, here it will be unfair to rest all the blame on Pizza Pies as the modern lifestyle, loss of physical activity due to increased screentime are also some of the factors contributing to the problem of obesity.

In such circumstances, a calories cap on Pizaa and pies is indeed a good idea, but authorities must issue guidelines for parents so that they can encourage their kids for maximum physical activity.
