The producer of the original movie Muhammad Sarwar Bhatti filed a copyright dispute against it in 2019, which was settled in 2020.
The story of the film revolves around the legendary rivalry between Maula Jatt, played by Fawad Khan and Noori Natt, played by Hamza Ali Abbasi. In the original, these characters were played by Sultan Rahi and Mustafa Quraishi, respectively. However, Khan and Abbasi seek to bring their own flair to the remake.
It has been directed and co-written by Bilal Lashari and produced by Ammara Hikmat. The dialogues of the film are penned by the legendary Nasir Adeeb, who also wrote the script for the 1979 classic. Besides Khan, Abbasi, and Mahira, the rest of the star-studded cast include Humaima Malick, Gohar Rasheed, Shafqat Cheema, Nayyer Ejaz, Shamoon Abbasi, Ali Azmat, and Faris Shafi.
