Spotify Wrapped 2021 sums up all the songs, artists, albums, or podcasts music fans have listened to most this year. An annual recap lets users revisit their listening history in style and compare stats with friends. The Wrapped experience also presents global stats of the same categories. So, besides personal playlist, one can also see which is the most played song on Spotify globally. The app recently revealed its rankings for the most-streamed audio material, including artists like Taylor Swift, Bad Bunny, Justin Bieber, and Drake.
Most Played Song on Spotify Globally
Puerto Rican Rapper Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, known by his stage name Bad Bunny came up as the most-streamed artist of 2021. The artist’s work garnered 9.1 billion streams worldwide. He was recently named Artist of the Year at the Billboard Latin Music Awards 2021. His prizes include Best Urban Music Album for ‘El Último Tour Del Mundo’ and Best Rap/Hip Hop Song for ‘Booker T’.
He is followed by Taylor Swift, who became the second-most streamed artist after re-recording 2 albums, Fearless and Red. Behind her are K-Pop sensation BTS, Canadian Hip Hop Artist Drake, and Justin Bieber.
However, none of these singers is associated with the most played song on Spotify. A relatively new sensation dominated the section of most-streamed songs this year. Olivia Rodrigo debuted with her power ballad of breakup, ‘Driver License’, played 1.1 billion times since its release in January.
The song also broke records in Amazon Music and came No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart.
Olivia’s song beat ‘MONTERO (Call Me by Your Name)’ by Lil Nas X, ‘Stay’ by The Kid Laroi, and ‘Levitating’ by Dua Lipa.

Olivia Rodrigo is making waves with her debut album SOUR, the most-streamed album on Spotify Wrapped 2021. Another one of her songs, ‘Good 4 U’, is the fourth most played song on Spotify. She is also an actress, known for her work in Disney shows including ‘Bizaardvark (2016-2019) and High School Musical: The Musical: The Series: The Special (2019).
Other most streamed albums of Spotify Wrapped 2021 included ‘Future Nostalgia’ by Dua Lipa, ‘Justice’ by Justin Bieber, ‘=’ Ed Sheeran, and ‘Planet Her’ Doja Cat.
Most Streamed Podcast
After the top artist, album, and most played song on Spotify; the Wrapped experience also shows which podcasts people listen to most. The app revealed that the most popular podcast in 2021 was of the controversial host Joe Rogan. ‘The Joe Rogan Experience’ is infamously known as one of the best sources of controversy.
In September, Rogan received heavy backlash for peddling COVID-19 controversies, including saying that he used drugs that medical experts didn’t recommend when he was infected. Last year, he received criticism for inviting famous conspiracy theorist Alex Jones on his podcast.
On the list of the tops, his podcast is followed by ‘Call Her Daddy’ at No. 2, ‘Crime Junkie’ at No. 3, ‘TED Talks Daily’ at No. 4, and New York Time’s ‘The Daily’ at No. 5.
