Public Supports Angelina Jolie in Her Fight Against Brad Pitt

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have been embroiled in plenty of court cases since their separation in 2016. The couple, once known as Brangelina, is once again in the limelight over a court case involving a French vineyard they bought together in 2008. According to Pitt, they agreed one partner would not sell their shares to a third party without the knowledge of the other. However, Jolie sold her shares to a Russian oligarch, Yuri Shefler, prompting Pitt to sue her ex-wife. According to Jolie’s legal team, the actress tried to sell her shares to Pitt, but the negotiations broke down because the actor wanted her to sign a non-disclosure agreement, restricting her from speaking publically about his physical and emotional abuse against her and the kids. In her countersuit, Jolie accused Pitt of attacking her and the kids under the influence of alcohol in 2016 during a private plane flight. The incident came to light in 2016 as well, and the FBI also investigated it but pressed no charges. However, Jolie has filed new documents, revealing much more harrowing details about that fateful flight which was the main reason for the couple’s separation.

Social Media Backs Angelina Jolie in Court Case

The lawsuit stated that Brad Pitt was physically and emotionally abusive towards Jolie and their 6 children, who were aged 8 to 15 at that time. He was allegedly shouting at them on the plane and accused Jolie of being “too deferential to the children”. He also allegedly “pulled her into the bathroom”, “grabbed her by the head and shook her”, and “grabbed her shoulders and shook her again before smashing her into the bathroom wall”.

The lawsuit continued that “Pitt repeatedly punched the bathroom ceiling, making Jolie come out of the bathroom”. He still did not stop harassing Jolie, and when one of the kids intervened and called him a “prick”, Pitt allegedly “lunged” at his own child. The documents said that Jolie tried to stop him by grabbing him from behind, and he threw himself at the seats of the plane to “get Jolie off his back”, injuring her elbow and back in the process.

Jolie’s lawyers also said the kids rushed in to protect their mother and each other while Pitt “choked one of them” and “struck another in the face”. They added that Jolie and the kids “remained silent under the blanket rest of the flight while Pitt periodically came from the back and yelled at them”. Moreover, “he also spilt beer and red wine on his wife and kids”.

The story disgusted many who questioned the system that never failed to skip accountability for violent men due to their status and power.

Not Falling for Distractions

Before the viewers formed any judgements about Angelina Jolie and labelled her Amber Heard 2.0, many came forward to remind them who Jolie was and what has she done for women and many marginalized communities. Jolie has represented United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) as a Goodwill Ambassador from 2001 to 2012. She carried out 60 field missions in war-torn areas like Syria, Iraq, and Myanmar. Since 2012, she has been appointed as the agency’s Special Envoy, expanding her role in making decisions and finding solutions for the people forced to flee their homes.

Jolie has also been a strong voice in support of the Violence Against Women Act which was first passed in 1994. The law created provisions for the federal authorities to prosecute domestic and sexual violence. Additionally, it provided support to many community organizations like rape crisis centres and shelters. The law was opposed by some Republicans and conservative activists who said it gave “harsh punishments” and promoted “divorce, breakup, and misandry” only to “fill feminist pockets”. It was invalidated and reauthorized multiple times over the years. The congress left it expired since 2018, when women activists, including Jolie, fought to make it workable again in 2022.

Many have advised people to be on the right side of history instead of being blinded by Brad Pitt’s sex appeal.

Victims Struggle while Abusers Prosper

Some also highlighted how Pitt, despite facing horrifying allegations in 2016, still received work in Hollywood. He was also one of the producers of Blonde (2022), a biographical movie based on the life and career of legendary actress Marilyn Monroe.
