Why Pakistan Stopped Javed Iqbal Film from Releasing?

Pakistani authorities have started to throw rocks in the path of the highly anticipated Javed Iqbal film. Punjab government, led by PTI’s Usman Buzdar, has recently halted its release in the province. The Yasir Hussain and Ayesha Omer starrer was set to release on January 28 across the country.

The movie is based on an infamous serial killer from 1999, who killed 100 boys and surrendered on his own after the Lahore authorities failed to catch him. It has already faced several postponements due to the COVID-19 pandemic. First, its release date was in October 2021 but then moved to December 24, 2021. However, now Lahore authorities have further delayed its release.

Javed Iqbal Film Cleared by Censor Board

The unexplained and irrational decision by the Punjab government was not acceptable for the crew. Director and Writer Abu Aleeha confidently announced to visit Lahore High Court as all censor boards have reportedly cleared Javed Iqbal film.

The authorities claimed that they wanted to “review” the film before releasing it all over the country.

Karachi Premiere Goes Smoothly

According to reports, celebrities including the movie’s cast, Iqra Aziz, Faysal Qureshi, Nadia Hussain, Asad Siddiqui, and “Pawri Girl” Dananeer Mubeen attended the star-studded premiere.

Viewers especially appreciated the performance of Ayesha Omer, who played a cop in the movie, investigating the heinous crimes of the titular killer.

What is the film About?

Javed Iqbal film is promoted as the “untold story” of a psychotic murderer who dissolved his victims in acid. It will focus on the perception of a killer, which was concealed from the wider public. Of course, nothing can justify murder, but an in-depth approach can undoubtedly uncover the weakness of a system that creates killers and victims. The incident was highly shameful for the Lahore authorities and police because petty criminal exposed their corruption and inability to perform their jobs.

Yasir Hussain, who would be playing the role of the criminal Javed Iqbal, has received praises for his performance well before the release of this film. Many have been excited for the movie after seeing his uncanny resemblance with the actual murderer.
