When will Rose Bowl Parade 2022 Start?

Rose Bowl Parade is one of the most popular parades in the world held annually in Pasadena, California. Formerly known as Pasadena Tournament of Roses, it is the oldest post-season college American football contest called Rose Bowl. The parade is being held before the start of each game on New Year’s Eve or New Year’s Day since 1890. The colourful event is filled with creative floats, marching bands, and costumed horses and riders. Last year’s event was cancelled because of the pandemic. However, this year’s Rose Parade is reportedly going to begin at 8 AM PST on 1 January 2022 and will last for about 2 hours.

In the wake of surging coronavirus cases, many New Year celebrations were cancelled or toned down. Pasadena leaders expressed concern over Rose Parade, but the organizers announced that the event would happen as they monitored the severity of the covid situation and its impact on hospitals. They also said they were prepared to make adjustments in their plans if necessary.

Rose Bowl Parade Theme

Rose Bowl Parade has a theme each year, and this time, it’s “Dream, Believe, Achieve”. The president of the parade, Bob Miller explained that he chose this inspirational theme to celebrate how education opened doors and minds and changed lives. The parade also has a grand marshal and this year; it’s LeVar Burton, an American actor, director, and children’s TV host. Previous grand marshals included actors, politicians, scientists, judges, astronauts, and even Kermit the Frog.

According to the reports, 47 floats, 18 marching bands, and 18 riding units will march down the route spanning 5.5 miles. The parade will begin at Orange Grove Boulevard and Green Street corner. Then it will head east onto Colorado Boulevard, Sierra Madre, and end at Pasadena High School.

Performances and Games

Volunteers start decorating the floats as soon as December begins. It is one of the most anticipated events despite its disturbing origins.

According to the reports, the Rose Bowl Parade will include several performances from talented artists. They include Grammy nominee Jimmie Allen, TikToker Timothy Fletcher, US Army Parachute Team known as Golden Knights, and Six students from South Lyon High School. The opening act will involve a B-2 stealth bomber flying low and then roaring down towards the street to start the party.

The Rose Bowl game between Ohio and Utah will kick off after the parade at 1 PM.

Watch from Home

The game can also be seen live on ESPN as well as the entire event on news channels. KTLA will air the event hosted by Leeza Gibbons, Mark Steines and Micah Ohlman. ABC, NBC, Hallmark Channel, RFD-TV and Univision (Spanish) are some other channels airing the parade.
