Mahershala Ali, a Muslim actor wins Oscar for the movie Moonlight. He seemed humbled by the response and thanked everyone who helped him become such a great actor.

“I want to thank my teachers and my professors. One thing they consistently told me was that it wasn’t about you. It’s not about you; it’s about these characters, you are a servant. You’re in service to these stories and these characters.”

Mahershala Ali also thanked his wife and daughter for their support.

“I want to thank her for being such a soldier through this process, and carrying me through it all.”

Muslim Actor Wins Oscar for Moonlight

Moonlight is a movie about Chiron, an African-American who struggles to find his place in life and confused about his orientation. Chiron grows up in a drug-inflected rough neighborhood of Miami.

Ali portrays the character of Juan. Juan is a character which supports and takes care of Chiron. The role of Juan played by Mahershala Ali also won him best support actor at Screen Actors Guild Awards and Golden Globes nomination.

Before winning any Oscars, Mahershala Ali played an outstanding role in the famous Netflix series House of Cards.

Ali said that he was able to win Oscars because of the role he played in House of Cards.

He plays the role of Remy Danton in House of Cards, where he previously served at various important posts including Chief of Staff, Lobbyist, and Partner at Glendon Hill. As Remy Danton, Ali plays a significant role in political middleman forming crucial deals between government personnel and prominent private organizations. He uses different tactics including incentives and intimidation to win their approvals for his employer.

The Classic Mix-up of La La Land and Moonlight

The two Oscars presenters Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway wrongly announced La La Land as the overall winner. But actually, Moonlight was the overall Oscar winner movie for the year 2017.

Here is how Beatty explained the situation.

“I opened the envelope, and it said: Emma Stone, La La Land. That’s why I took such a long pause and looked at Faye, and at you. I wasn’t trying to be funny.”
